Angela Merkel Teaches David Cameron the German Language

Today I learnt of the amazing skill Angela Merkel demonstrated yesterday, in teaching our Great Leader David Cameron the whole German language in about 5 minutes during their meeting at Downing Street.

This almost miraculous deed was proven beyond doubt when Angela later presented her speech to Westminster. Most of those present had to wear the induction-loop headsets to listen to a translation of Angela's speech in German. Nick Clegg was one of the few who can speak German fluently, and so he needed no headset. However David Cameron, who previously could not speak German was able to sit next to Nick without a headset because Angela's superbly fast tuition had permitted him to understand every word without a translator.

I am so impressed by Angela Merkel's ability to teach the German language so quickly, that I intend to write her a letter and ask her if she will teach me also. I have a number of German friends, but I've only been able to pick up a tiny smattering of their language to date. It would be so wonderful to be able to suddenly understand German fluently like Cameron now can, that I really do want Angela to teach me.

The Demise of Margaret Thatcher Day

Today I learnt of the sad demise of Margaret Thatcher Day. For months that lone campaigner Peter Bone has struggled on, trying to give the British Public some amusement for the August Bank Holiday. Mr Bone's brilliant idea for making the August bank holiday a special "Magaret Thatcher Day" has unfortunately been discarded by his fellow MPs in Parliament.

All across the land, millions of people had been looking forward to building bonfires in August. The nation's children had been preparing to make their Mad-Maggie dummies so they could trundle them through the streets to beg money. And all were hoping for those wonderful Summer evening parties with food and drinks whilst burning the Mad-Maggie for Thatcher Day.

But now those spoil-sports in Parliament have robbed us all of this joyous occasion, and we will have to make do with the usual wet Monday off work this August.

A sad day indeed!

Gentle Beginnings

Today I decided to start this new blog on my own views of world affairs.

My long and interesting life has given me a unique perspective on world affairs and politics in general, which always seems somewhat at odds with the views of any specific political party or government.

I will attempt in this blog to bring a more reasoned view of such happenings which appear in the news, to help my readers to better understand the true implications of those journalistic reports found in newspapers, television and radio.

Should it be that the governments of the World take note of my writings and mend their ways, I will feel very proud to have provided my insight. But I will feel equally proud if all that results is an increase in happy laughter round the globe.
